When tiling a kitchen floor one needs to be very aware of the substrate. Many floors are of a timber structure / upper layer. There are floating floors of chipboard over insulation, there are planked and chipboard floors over joists. Both systems give a slightly flexible finish which is unsuitable for tiling over with ceramics and certainly large ceramic tiles.
